he Resiliency Center's Joy in Work Program fosters a culture of well-being throughout the University of Utah by assisting individuals and teams in addressing departmental, divisional, or clinic well-being needs through Improvement Science principles.

Based on the Institute for Healthcare Improvement's Framework for Improving Joy in Work, this program equips individuals, teams, and leaders with tools and expertise to optimize existing resources and eliminate barriers to enhance workplace well-being, satisfaction, engagement, and belonging.

Joy in Work Foundations Course

Overview: 

Utilizing the evidence-based “Framework for Improving Joy in Work” from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), the Joy in Work Foundations Course serves as a day-long retreat and immersive training, equipping participants with essential knowledge, tools, support, and resources to empower Joy in Work within their role and locus of control.

What to Expect:

Learn more about the Joy in Work model, including the Nine Components of Joy in Work. The course includes interactive sessions to apply positive change management within your role, teams and context, with tailored breakout sessions for individuals, team leaders/managers, and senior leaders.

You will gain practical tools, learn from experienced practitioners, and become familiar with strategies to address resilience, well-being, fulfillment, and flourishing in the workplace. You’ll leave feeling empowered to initiate projects that improve metrics like burnout, engagement, and turnover rates.

You’ll also have access to resources for ongoing support and receive an invitation to participate in the Resiliency Center’s “Joy in Work Improvement Projects Program”, an academic-year long coaching program to support a change initiative on your team, and the opportunity to participate in the Evidence-based Practice and Well-being Poster Fair in spring 2025.

Joy in Work Improvement Projects Coaching Program

(formerly Wellness Champions Program)

Overview:

The University of Utah Resiliency Center’s Joy in Work Team Projects Coaching Program is designed to enhance the well-being of individuals and teams within departments or divisions, using the IHI Joy in Work model, and aims to empower and support  University of Utah Health teams who wish to implement a Joy in Work initiative or project over the course of the academic year, with education and support from experts at the Resiliency Center.

The Joy in Work Team Projects aim to reduce burnout, improve resilience, and foster a deeper connection to meaning and purpose in daily work, and are an opportunity to make positive changes within your team, department, or organization.

Program Description:

To participate in the Resiliency Center’s Joy in Work Team Projects Program, University of Utah Health employees may apply to become Team Improvement Facilitators. Once selected, a cohort of facilitators will be guided through the Joy in Work model by experts at the Resiliency Center and receive support and guidance in identifying significant needs within their department or team, initiating and executing impactful projects, and evaluating the impact of the projects.

Team Improvement Facilitators act as change agents, leading Joy in Work initiatives and learning from peers and experts during quarterly group coaching sessions hosted by the Resiliency Center. Facilitators can work individually or in teams and will collaborate with the Resiliency Center to establish success metrics.

November 13, 2024, 12-1pm: Planning and Getting Started

January 15, 2025, 12-1pm:  Implementation and Measurement

March 19, 2025, 12-1pm: Wrapping-Up and Reporting Out

April 17, 2025, 10am – 12pm: Evidence-Based Practice Poster Fair

*Attendance at the Joy in Work Foundations Course is recommended but not required.
