Context
his poem is both a dedication to those who sustain entire communities by growing, transporting, preparing, cooking, and delivering food, and a dedication to sensory experiences that, although inaccessible and memorialized during this crisis, can powerfully bring us joy and renewal.
Sensory Eclipse
By Becky Nirav
zip! pow! kick!
(recalling my favorite dish)
twist - crack, sift
(remember it on my lips)
tap tap tap
(prepare delicious bits)
pop, scan, scratch
(perhaps with a side of chips)
hot! hot! hot!
(watch your fingertips)
flutter, fizzle, whish
(drools, then comes to grips)
sizzle, drizzle, snap
(sneaking little sips)
clack! zap! hiss!
(total sensory eclipse)
